Winter Sunset

This is a special place we visit in the Lakes to walk. The winter light at sunset was especially beautiful as it poured through the trees. A stream runs along the bottom of this hillside and you could hear the gentle babble of water and the call of birds flying home to roost.

The painting is in watercolour on Arches (NOT) paper.

What a beautiful, serene painting, Theresa. Makes me want to take the walk and experience it for myself. Lovely light,

I love the way you have created the glow of the setting sun on the landscape and the understatement of creating a monochromatic look. A great example of simplifying one's composition.

Thanks Jean ... I love the way the low sun creates silhouettes in the landscape, don't you?

Thanks Theresa for dropping by. Really appreciate it. I love the reminiscent feeling of a winter's evening with the diluted glow of the sun. That time of day seems to be one of your lovely specialities.

Thankyou Laura ... I do think I'm a bit of an owl ;)
Hello Theresa, you have captured the beautiful stillness and colours of a winter's evening. The birds really do make the painting. Lots of atmosphere I hope the mist clears for you soon in the peak district. I am wondering if you have been having all the snow as well this winter.

Thanks Caroline for popping by :) Yes, the mists have gone now but we still have some snow lying about. Nice to see the Spring flowers peeping through ... I should think you've had your fair share of snow up in the frozen north!
