Pastel.
Just experimenting with a variety of texture media on acrylic then working into the surface with pastel.
I applied the texture media with stiff bristle brushes and also scored into it with my scraffito tool before it dried. Not sure I'm happy with this effect - might be too textured. I think I'll selectively sand areas next time before applying pastel.

Valley at Bolehill Clough, November

'Bolehill Clough'
Pastel
NFS
Enjoyed the colour and textures of this area so much that I decided to continue on the same theme this morning.
The dry stone walls can look so pretty sometimes when they divide the land up like a quilt!

Bolehill, November ; (Peak District)

Bolehill, November
8" x 10"
Pastel
OK, back to reality. In any case, the autumn is prettier to paint in many ways. I love the way the greens change; pale olives and warm yellows. And the ground texture is so crunchy. Ideal for pastels!

So, this is my first ever painting to be posted to my new 'painting a day' project.

Actually, I do paint almost daily anyway but I've recently decided to commit to always producing a small finished painting. Usually, most of my works are quite large so take a few days to complete; sometimes much longer. This new blog will give me the discipline to try out more ideas and explore different media on a daily basis.

Anyway, I'm quite pleased with this little one - especially the moody sky which I found quite tricky to achieve in watercolour :) - I'm just getting back into it after a long break!
